Hoover Notes will be sent out weekly to help you keep track of important school community news and events.  New items are bolded. 

PTA News

Thank you for...

  • joining the PTA.  If you have not purchased a PTA membership, you can still join here. We have a lot of activities planned!

Plan on...

  • attending the first Hoover PTA General Membership Meeting on 10/11 at 7 pm.  Dr. Kim, the Hoover Administrative Team, and the PTA President will provide news and updates. The Hoover Counseling Team will also share about the Connect Time Curriculum.  Please register at https://forms.gle/9YpSVW4kUTuoT1mv5. A Zoom link will be provided via email before the meeting.
  • participating in the next fundraising Spirit Night on 10/19 from 4-8 pm at Potomac Pizza (Falls Road).  Please mention the Hoover PTA when ordering.
  • buying tickets online for Skate Night on 10/22 from 6:30-8 pm at the Cabin John Ice Rink.
  • buying tickets online for the Let's Glo All Night" Halloween/Fall Party on 10/27 from 6-8 pm in Hoover's Cafeteria.  Tickets will also be sold during lunch 10/24-10/26 and at the door. The $12 ticket price includes a glow band for entry, three food tickets, and photo booth pictures. Students are invited to wear white, black or a costume. No weapons or accessories will be allowed.
  • donating used board games for the after-school Game Club. Please email presidenthooverpta@gmail.com if interested.

The 2022-2023 National PTA Reflections Art Contest's theme is "Show Your Voice!".  There are two opportunities to participate: entering a theme idea for the 2024-2025 contest (due 11/4) and submitting art for this year's contest (due 12/2).  More details can be found on the PTA's website.

An overview of Student Service Learning (SSL) hours and SSL opportunities are now under the "More/Resources" tab.  One time sensitive SSL opportunity is helping the Montgomery County Council PTA move offices.  Volunteers are urgently needed to help from 10/7-10/14.  Task focused students who accompany an adult can get SSL hours. Hoover News
  • Principal Dr. Kim's Monthly Message provides a comprehensive overview of everything happening at Hoover, including important information for each grade, Mental Health Awareness Week, and parent engagement opportunities. 
  • The 7th Grade Parent Tea is at Hoover on 10/19 at 9 am.
  • Order your student's yearbook here for a $10 discount. 
  • Volunteer at Hoover's Media Center.  It's a great opportunity to meet the teachers and staff. Contact: Saumya Sharma at avi.guh@gmail.com or Cindy Chi at alexandcindy@gmail.com
  • Click on this link for an overview of this year's extracurricular clubs.  Clubs will start on Tuesday 10/11.
  • Hoover is hosting an outdoor family picture day on 11/7. All proceeds will go towards Hoover's wellness programs for staff and students. A flyer will be shared later.
  • Hoover's 7th Grade Global Humanities Classes will participate in a financial literacy field trip on 12/5, 12/6 and 12/8. Parent volunteers are needed.  If interested in volunteering, click here.
MCPS Community News

  • Read MCPS' Community Message: Things to Know for Thursday, Oct. 6. A link to the new 8th grade common application for high school programs is included in this message.
  • Potomac Elementary's Sister School, Highland Elementary, is collecting musical instruments to give to students who otherwise would not be able to participate in orchestra or band. Contact Katie Koshy at KatieKoshy@gmail.com with questions or to arrange an instrument pickup.
  • School meals will not be free for all students this year.  Click on this link to find out more information about enrolling in My School Bucks and free and reduced meals.  
  • MCPS has transitioned to a new online payment system called SchoolCash Online as its preferred method of payment for all school-related fees.  
  • Winston Churchill's athletic events are now cashless. Single event tickets and season passes can only be purchased online through GoFan.co.  If your student does not have a cell phone, have them bring a copy of the purchased ticket.
