PTA News

Thank you for...

  • the outstanding 2022-2023 National PTA Reflections Contest entries. We would like to congratulate the following Hoover finalists who advanced to the Montgomery County Council of PTA’s (MCCPTA) Reflections Contest: Anvita Bangalore, Olivia Li, Abrar Mahbub, Flora Tsui, and Angela Yao. For more details, click here. The MCCPTA winners will be announced at the end of January 2023.
  • attending the PTA General Membership meeting on 1/10.

Plan on...

  • participating in the next fundraising Spirit Night at Potomac Pizza (Falls Road) on 2/22.  And mark your calendar for the Ledo Pizza Spirit Night on 3/22.
  • attending the World Expo-Taste of Hoover on 2/1 from 5-7 pm.  
  • signing up here to help with set up, concessions sales, and clean up for the Valentine's Day Social on 2/9 from 4:30-6:30 pm. The Hoover Administration Team will provide details soon.
  • participating in the Hoover Read-A-Thon, a PTA fundraiser that will launch at the end of February. Students can earn prizes by both reading and raising funds. There are also a limited number of digital and printed sponsorship opportunities if you own, know, or manage a business. Thousands of people will know you're supporting literacy at our school.   • serving on the three-member PTA Nominating Committee, which nominates people to the 2023/2024 Executive Board. Serving on the Nominating Committee does not prohibit an individual from serving on the Executive Board for the 2023/2024 school year.  We would like to have this Committee in place no later than 2/2.  Contact Kimberly King at presidenthooverpta@gmail.com if interested.  
  • serving as the PTA representative to the NAACP Parents' Council. Contact Kimberly King at presidenthooverpta@gmail.com if interested.
  • joining Hoover's PTA Facebook Group to stay up to date on all things Hoover. 
  • purchasing individual bags of popcorn for the Teacher Valentine's Day Appreciation Gift through the Hoover Staff's Amazon Gift Registry.  There are also items to support Counseling, the World Expo, World History Day, and overall classroom experiences.   
  • signing up for a FREE Youth Mental Health First Aid class provided by MCCPTA and EveryMind. The next class date is 2/24 from 9 am-3 pm. If you are interested in attending, please complete this form and EveryMind will send you the registration link. If you are interested in taking the class but need a future date, please also fill out this form to be notified of additional dates.

  • Principal Dr. Kim's January Monthly Message provides an overview of everything happening at Hoover and parent engagement opportunities.
  • Hoover's schedule of 2023-2024 School Year Registration Events is available here.
  • Hoover wants to ensure every student has access to a device at home. Families that need Internet access (a mifi device) should notify their counselor who will then fill out a mifi request form for consideration.  If you need a MCPS student Chromebook at home, please follow the instructions in this form: Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families.
  • Order your student's yearbook here
  • Volunteers are needed in the Media Center.  Volunteers are required to complete an online child abuse and neglect training and a COVID vaccination verification form. You can access these requirements here.
MCPS Community News
  • MCPS 5 Things to Know, January 26 provides information about the Fentanyl Awareness event, the Summer Rise 2023 Program, how some celebrated the Lunar New Year and news about students.
  • The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Plan during its 1/12 business meeting. The plan has been sent to the Maryland State Department of Education and this option can be used after receiving final approval. Here are the proposed guidelines.
  • MCPS is improving its process for informing the community when weather requires an operational status change. It now has six operational status options, which will be reported by easy-to-understand, color-coded messages. Click here for more information.
  • Here is the latest edition of MCPS QuickNotes, which includes a calendar of events and other helpful MCPS news and information.
  • Single event tickets and season passes for Winston Churchill's games can only be purchased online through GoFan.co.
