PTA News

  • the Valentine's Day Social volunteers.  It was another fun event for our students!
  • the Middle School Division Winners of the Montgomery County Council of PTA's Reflections Contest: Olivia Li for the Literature Award of Excellence, and Flora Tsui for the Visual Arts Award of Excellence. They will advance to the Maryland PTA's Reflections Contest. For more details, click here
  • the 54 families who represented 29 different countries at the World Expo-Taste of Hoover. It was an incredible celebration!

  • participating in the next fundraising Spirit Night at Potomac Pizza (Falls Road) on 2/22.  Here is the flyer.  And mark your calendar for the Ledo Pizza Spirit Night on 3/22.
  • signing up your student for the Hoover Read-A-Thon, a new PTA fundraiser that will start on Monday 2/27. Students will spend the month of March earning prizes for both reading and raising funds. It is possible to earn prizes without raising any money. Parents must assist students in setting up their account since they are not allowed to use their school emails. You can activate your reader's account by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/yZqoeV/1 and selecting your student's Language Arts teacher's class. Student accounts set up by midnight 2/26 will receive a treat at school on 2/27.  Click hereto see all of the fantastic ways that students can earn prizes.
  • sponsoring the Read-A-Thon through a limited number of digital and printed business sponsorship opportunities.  Click here to reserve your sponsorship spot today!

  • joining Hoover's PTA Facebook Group to stay up to date on all things Hoover. 
  • purchasing items to support the Counseling Department through the Hoover Staff's Amazon Gift Registry There are also items to support overall classroom experiences.   
  • signing up for a FREE Youth Mental Health First Aid class provided by MCCPTA and EveryMind. The next class date is 2/24 from 9 am-3 pm. If you are interested in attending, please complete this form and EveryMind will send you the registration link. If you are interested in taking the class but need a future date, please also fill out this form to be notified of additional dates.

Hoover News
  • Principal Dr. Kim's February Monthly Message provides an overview of everything happening at Hoover and parent engagement opportunities.
  • The Hoover Social Studies Showcase is on Monday 2/13 from 5-7 pm in the Media Center & Cafeteria.  You will be able to see some of the great work that students are doing in Social Studies.
  • Hoover wants to ensure every student has access to a device at home. Families that need Internet access (a mifi device) should notify their counselor who will then fill out a mifi request form for consideration.  If you need a MCPS student Chromebook at home, please follow the instructions in this form: Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families.

  • Volunteers are needed in the Media Center.  Volunteers are required to complete an online child abuse and neglect training and a COVID vaccination verification form. You can access these requirements here.
MCPS Community News
  • MCPS 5 Things to Know, February 9 provides information about the next Fentanyl Family Forum set for 2/25, recommended operating budget work sessions, Teacher of the Year finalists, and some great news about students and staff.
  • Click here for the MCPS Mid-Year Roundup from Superintendent McKnight.
  • The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Plan during its 1/12 business meeting. The plan has been sent to the Maryland State Department of Education and this option can be used after receiving final approval. Here are the proposed guidelines.
  • MCPS is improving its process for informing the community when weather requires an operational status change. It now has six operational status options, which will be reported by easy-to-understand, color-coded messages. Click here for more information.
  • Here is the latest edition of MCPS QuickNotes, which includes a calendar of events and other helpful MCPS news and information.
  • The Winston Churchill Athletics Program is holding its first annual spring mulch sale to support its athletic teams and the student athletes with the help of Denchfield Landscaping Inc. All proceeds will go towards equipment for athletes, facility improvement, and to meet the needs of all of the student-athletes and their teams. Click here for more information.
  • Single event tickets and season passes for Winston Churchill's games can only be purchased online through GoFan.co.
