PTA News

  • a TERRIFIC Read-A-Thon!  The final week class winners are Period 7 Kane (6th), Period 1 Chai-onn (7th), and Period 7 Martin (8th). The top 2 readers from each grade are: Jody Abanulo & Iman (6th), Jenny Ryu & Donald Hue (7th), and Fatemeh Tofigh & Arianna Raney (8th). The Hoover Staff top readers are Gina Blake & Ryan Kwak. 
  • the generous donation of Coach Doug owner of Coach Doug Academy (coachDoug.net) for the limo ride to Shake Shack for the top readers and to Chad Anthony owner of The Pretzel Bakery in Cabin John (https://www.thepretzelbakery.com/) for generously donating over 100 pretzels for class pretzel parties.
  • participating in the Klay Spirit Night on 4/12 and attending the PTA, Arts and English Departments Heart's the Arts on 4/13.  
  • joining the PTA.  The number one reason to join is to benefit your child.  You can still help us reach our $35,000 goal and buy your membership today.

    Treasurer; Namita Sandal, Recording Secretary; Miriam Tai, Corresponding Secretary; Martin Stuermer, MCCPTA Delegate; and Jennifer Nordin, MCCPTA Delegate.
  • participating in the PTA fundraising Spirit Night on 5/12 at Fire Wok.  
  • joining Hoover's PTA Facebook Group to stay up to date on all things Hoover.
  • attending the Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations and Board of Education Central Area Meeting on 5/15, 6:30-8 pm at Wootton High School.  
  • signing up for the MCCPTA recommended "Got the Power Girls" Conference on 5/6. The conference is hosted by the Montgomery County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and is free. Click here for more information and to register.
  • reviewing and submitting comments on the Board of Education's recently proposed changes to Policy ABC (Parent and Family Involvement) which guides regulation ABC-RA.  If family involvement, information sharing and stakeholder participation in school improvement are important to you, please read the proposed revisions to Policy ABC and submit your comments to the Board of Education before the April 20th deadline. The proposed Policy ABC revisions and public comment submission form can be found on this page beneath the video clip on the right-hand side.

  • Principal Dr. Kim's April Monthly Message provides an overview of everything happening at Hoover and parent engagement opportunities.
  • The Counseling Department is hosting a Career Expo on 5/18 from 5-7 pm. Presenters and volunteers are still needed. Click here for the flyer and sign up link.
  • A Spring Clothing Drive is being held from 4/11-4/30 to benefit the National Center for Children & Families in Bethesda. New and lightly used (except for underwear and socks) child and adult clothes should be dropped off at the main office.  
  • Tickets for Herbert Hoover Theatre's Musical Aladdin Jr. and Intermission Nightclub Show on 5/5-5/7. Tickets can be purchased here: Aladdin Jr Publicity Announcement.
  • Volunteers are needed in the Media Center.  Click on this link to sign up.  Volunteers are required to complete an online child abuse and neglect training and a COVID vaccination verification form. You can access these requirements here.

  • MCPS 5 Things to Know, April 13 provides update about the Inaugural Rales-O’Neill $10,000 Scholarships, College Fair, Youth Climate Summit, and more. 
  • The Asian Pacific American Student Achievement Action Group and the MCPS Department of Partnerships are sponsoring the 4th annual K-12 Student Poster Art Contest to celebrate the Asian American and
    Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month this May: https://sites.google.com/view/apasaag/home/May2023. The deadline for submissions is 4/21.

  • The Beverly Farms Elementary School PTA is looking for eight student volunteers to help run activities at Club Beverly Farms on 4/22 from 5:30-8:30 pm at Beverly Farms. Contact John Russell at russelljd@gmail.com by 4/18 if interested.
  • The Winston Churchill PTA is looking for candidates for the 2023-2024 school year. Here is the link for the Candidate Interest Form. The submission deadline is 5/1.
