Hoover Notes will be sent out weekly to help you keep track of important school community news and events.  New items will be bolded. Links are blue.

PTA Action Items
  1. Join the PTA here.  We can't do this without you!  
  2. Complete the survey for the rescheduled PTA first General Membership Meeting on 10/19 at 7 pm, if you haven't already.  A Zoom link will be provided before the meeting.
  3. Buy tickets for the PTA's Halloween Party on Thursday, October 26 from 6-8 pm at Hoover.  This party is open to all Hoover students.  Tickets are $15 and will be on sale during lunch on 10/17, 10/8, and 10/19 (cash only) or online under Event Tickets at https://hhmspta.membershiptoolkit.com/.  Drinks, Potomac Pizza, and candy will be included in the ticket cost. Questions or interest in volunteering can be sent to anne.glynn@gmail.com.  If students need financial assistance for tickets, contact their Guidance Counselor.
  4. Let your student(s) know about the two opportunities to participate in the 2023-2024 National PTA Reflections Art Contest, "I Am Hopeful Because...": entering a theme idea for the 2025-2026 contest (due 11/3) and submitting art for this year's contest (due 11/17).  More details can be found on the PTA's website.
  5. Participate in the next scheduled Spirit Night is 11/20 at Chipotle (Potomac Village).
  6. Take a look at the Hoover Staff's Amazon Wishlist. Items should be delivered to the "Gift Registry Address". Any donations will be greatly appreciated. 
  7. Link your Harris Teeter VIC card to the Together in Education program to earn money for Hoover.  Click here for more details.

  • Dr. Kim's October Message is available here.  
  • The 7th Grade Parent Tea is scheduled for 10/19 from 9-10 am.
  • Here are the slides from the 8th Grade Parent Tea.
  • Buy yearbooks here.  You can purchase Yearbook Recognition Ads. The flyer has more information.
  • Hoover's Counseling Team is looking for parent volunteers to join the student led Hoover No Place for Hate Committee. The committee's mission is to join the Anti-Defamation League's No Place for Hate movement and create sustainable positive change at Hoover.  Its first task is to rally the school community together to sign the No Place for Hate Pledge.  Meetings will be held monthly on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 pm starting 10/11.  Contact Debbie Velasquez at 301-968-3750 or email Debra_M_Velasquez@mcpsmd.org if you would like to join.
  • Hoover's Theater Program is holding an interest meeting on 10/17 at 7 pm. The flyer is available here.
  • Winter registration for boys or girls' basketball opens 10/30 at noon. Spring registration for boys or girls' soccer opens 1/29/24 at noon.
MCPS Community News
  • MCPS Things to Know, October 12 providesinformationabout how you can learn more about the upcoming FY 2024-2025 Operating Budget, applications for the Montgomery Virtual Academy, upcoming district events, vaccinations, national bus safety week and a pilot for a possible new sport at MCPS. 
  • Read the latest edition of MCPS QuickNotes, which includes a calendar of events and MCPS news and information.
  • Provide feedback on the 2024-2025 MCPS Calendar here.
  • MCPS' High School Regional/Countywide Application Programs opens in early October. Click here for information and here for open house dates.
  • New this year, students may also apply to the Montgomery Virtual Academy (MVA) during the same application period as other special programs.  The MVA has a separate application which can be found in ParentVUE.               
  • All MCPS families are invited to the Girls’ Summit on 10/21 from 9 am-1 pm at Clarksburg High School.  RSVP here.
  • Students, families, and community members are invited to the 5th annual MCPS STEAM Festival on 10/21 from 10am-1pm on the campus of Wheaton HS and Thomas Edison HS of Technology. The Festival is a showcase of how the STEAM fields of study (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) are integrated and accessed here in Montgomery County.  This is a FREE, family-friendly event.  For more information, visit the Event Website and here is the Event Flyer.
Student Service Learning (SSL)

Student Service Learning is a Maryland state graduation requirement. 75 SSL hours are required to graduate.  For more information and SSL opportunities, visit the MCPS SSL page, the Montgomery County Volunteer Center's website, and the PTA's SSL page.  If you have questions, email Hoover's SSL Coordinator, Mrs. Triantis at Amalia_D_Triantis @mcpsmd.org.

The Beverly Farms Elementary School PTA is looking for 8 student volunteers to help with Club Beverly Farms (CBF) on 10/21 from 5:30-8:30 pm at Beverly Farms (8501 Post Oak Road).  CBF is a party for elementary school students where they can dance, participate in games, crafts, and more.  Students will help run activities.  If you are interested, please email John Russell at BFESprogram@gmail.com by 10/18.
