Hoover Notes will be sent out weekly to help you keep track of important school community news and events. New items are bolded.  Links are blue.

PTA News
  1. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help with outdoor recess. Please consider signing up here for future Fridays, especially if you are an 8th grade parent. We need to have at least 4 parentsper grade to cover any last-minute cancellations.  Please call the main office at 301-968-3740 if there is inclement weather and notify Kimberly King at PresidentHooverPTA@gmail.com if your plans change the day of.
  2. The MCCPTA Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for MCCPTA officer positions for the 2024-2025 school year. The duties of each position are outlined in Section VII of the MCCPTA Bylaws.  Each position is a 1-year term.  The first round of nomination is due 2/22.  For more information on the positions, and to obtain the nomination forms, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Cynthia Simonson, at pastpresident@mccpta.org MCCPTA is also looking for Committee Members, Vice-Chairs & Chairs for its many committees.  You can find the list of committees on the MCCPTA website.  To express interest, you can fill out this interest form. Questions can be sent to VPAdvocacy@mccpta.org.
  3. Thank you to Edith Deng, Golru Ghaffari and Anne Glynn for serving on the Hoover PTA Nominating Committee.  The Committee is seeking volunteers to serve as board members or on various committees for the 2024-2025 school year.   As a new or current Hoover parent, getting involved in the Hoover PTA is a great way to be involved in the school and show your support for the teachers, staff and students. Interested parents should email Anne Glynn at anne.glynn@gmail.com.
  4. Mark your calendar for our next fundraising Spirit Night on 4/10 - Potomac Pizza (Potomac Village and Travilah).
  5. Congratulations to the six Hoover students who advanced to the Free State (State) level of the Reflections Arts Contest!  A party for all of the Hoover participants was held on 2/16. Click here for photos.  The Free State PTA Reflections winners will be announced in mid-March.
  6. New items on the Hoover Staff's Amazon Wishlist includes support for staff appreciation, the forensics elective, and the Grade 8 field trip.  Items should be delivered to the "Gift Registry Address" at 11208 River View Drive, Potomac, MD 20854.
  7. Here is the Powerpoint presentation from the 1/26 Parent Teafeaturing Phyllis L. Fagell, a licensed clinical professional counselor, certified professional school counselor, and journalist. Ms. Fagell discussed the 10 key skills kids need to thrive in middle school and beyond - and how parents can help.   
  8. The PTA's Safety Committee is working with the MCDOT Safe Route to School.   Learn more about the Committee's advocacy efforts here.
  9. Join the PTA if you haven't already. We would love to get to 100% participation!

Hoover News
  1. Dr. Kim's February Message is available here.  
  2. Please use turn signals when entering and exiting the Hoover parking lot at drop off and dismissal.  This will help Hoover's Security Staff better direct the flow of traffic.  
  3. Shrek The Musical Jr. & The Intermission Nightclub tickets are now available. Purchase tickets and special packages at www.tinyurl.com/HooverTix.
  4. The Media Center is looking for volunteers. Here is the link to sign up. Sign up is till the end of February. Volunteers will need to complete one module: Online "Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training" via your MCPS Classroom/Canvas Account. You can read the user guide here. Questions? MCPS Community News
  1. MCPS Things to Know Thursday February 15 includes information about sharing your input and overall satisfaction with your school, and/or office and district.  Also, get information about a board public hearing to consider eliminating or modifying three MCPS programs, find out who the finalists are for the 2024 Teacher of Year, upcoming events and more.
  2. Read the latest edition of MCPS QuickNotes, which includes a calendar of events and MCPS news and information.
  3. Students grades 6–12 and caregivers are invited to the second MCPS Girls’ Summit from 9 am-1 pm on March 9, at Northwood High School. This event will provide informative workshops geared towards middle and high school girls on a variety of current topics.
  4. Here is information about Schaeffer's Piano Company 2/17-2/25 piano sale for MCPS families.  
  5. Multiple elementary and middle schools in Maryland are among the best in the country, according to new rankings released by U.S. News & World. Montgomery County dominated the rankings with Herbert Hoover ranked #2 in the top 10 middle schools in Maryland!
Student Service Learning (SSL)
