HOOVER NOTES

Hoover Notes will be sent out weekly to help you keep track of important school community news and events.  New items are bolded. We look forward to a fantastic 2022-2023 school year!

PTA News
  • Join the PTA if you haven't already.  We can't do this without you!  You will be entered in a drawing to receive a free basket of Spirit Wear if you sign up for membership by 9/17.  There will be one basket for each grade.
  • Buy Spirit Wear!  Not only will your student look great; purchases will support PTA activities.  All August online orders will be available for pick up at Hoover the first day of school.
  • Thank you to everyone who made homemade cookies for the Mini Day Orientation staff lunch. We would like to provide cookies for teachers on Back to School Night.  If you are willing to make at least a dozen cookies, please email presidenthooverpta@gmail.com. Cookies need to be dropped off at the coordinator's house, close to Potomac Village, on 8/30.  
  • Enjoy a yummy dinner at Chipotle (10116 River Road) during the PTA's first fundraising Spirit Night on 9/14 from 5-9 pm.
Hoover News
  • Everything you need to know for the 2022-2023 school year is in Principal Dr. Kim's Summer Greetings.  You can find First Day Important Reminders here.
  • Hoover's SSL pageprovides information about submitting SSL forms and opportunities to earn SSL hours.  MCPS requires 75 SSL (Student Service Learning) hours to graduate.  One upcoming SSL opportunity for 7th and 8th graders with at least one year of soccer experience: serving as Youth Game Leaders for 1st grade MSI fall games. Trainings are scheduled for August 28 or September 5. Click the "Play With MSI" tab at www.msisoccer.org, and then "Youth Game Leaders Program" for more information.  
  • An Open House will be held at Hoover on 10/10 from 9 am - noon.
  • Hoover's Theater program will hold a Parent and Student Interest Meeting at Hoover on 10/10 at 7 pm. Click on this link, Herbert Hoover Theatre Google Slide, for more information.
  • Hoover's 7th Grade Global Humanities Classes will participate in a financial literacy field trip on 12/5, 12/6 and 12/8.  Parent volunteers are needed.  More information and a sign up link will be provided closer to the date.
MCPS Community News
  • MCPS' Reopening Guide for Schools is now available.
  • School meals will not be free for all students this year.  Click on this link to find out more information about enrolling in My School Bucks and free and reduced meals.  
  • Read the MCPS' Chief Medical Officer's letter about reducing the impact of Covid 19 in our school community.
  • Don't forget to sign up for ParentVUE, the MCPS online parent portal that serves as the primary communication vehicle for schools to share information regarding grades, attendance, scheduling, access to myMCPS Classroom and more. 
  • MCPS has transitioned to a new online payment system called SchoolCash Online as its preferred method of payment for all school-related fees.  
  • Winston Churchill's 2022 Varsity Soccer Team needs Ball Boys/Girls for their home games.  SSL hours will be provided. Sign up here.

  • A Soccer Skills Clinic, for girls, grades 3-8, is being offered on 9/11 from 9-11 am at Winston Churchill.  There is a $40 participation fee.  For more information, contact varsity coach Haroot_Hakopian@mcpsmd.org.
